Molana Hamdullah Jan or Dagai Babaji (1914 - 12 January 2019) was a politician, aalim e deen and student of Shaykh-ul-Hind Mahmood Hassan Deobandi, Muhammad Zakaria Kandhalvi and Hussain Ahmad Madani. He was born in 1914 in Dagai, a village in Swabi district
Molana Hamdullah Jan (Dagai Babaji )received his early education from his father Allama Abdul Hakim and uncle Maulana Siddique Both the elders were students of Hazrat Shaykh-ul-Hind and classmates of Hazrat Allama Anwar Shah Kashmiri،After that he studied at Darul Uloom Deoband for some time،But he spent the last three years of his student life in Mazahir-ul-Uloom Saharanpur and from there he completed his Dora e Hadith in 1947.
Molana Hamdullah Jan (Dagai Babaji ) taught and authored Islamic knowledge in his area "Dagai" Mardan up to 75 years. When the Islamic Emirate was established in Afghanistan (1997), Maulana Hamdullah Jan (Dagai Babaji ) left for Kabul at the invitation of Islamic State and for a few years he taught at Darul Uloom Farooqia in the position of Shaykh-ul-Hadeeth and Shaykh-ul-Tafsir where thousands of scholars received honorable Islamic knowledge from him
Despite his illness, Molana Hamdullah Jan (Dagai Babaji )continued teaching in his established Darul Uloom till the last days.
Molana Hamdullah Jan (Dagai Babaji ) held a special and prominent position in the circle of scholars all over the world, especially in kpk. The great and eminent scholars considered it a blessing to kneel before them.Maulana Hamdullah Jan's virtue was that despite being a great scholar and teacher, he was very kind to his students.
Maulana Hamdullah Jan was active in the field of religion and science and was also one of the good politician. He ran in the 1970 and 1988 general elections. In the 1970 general election, he ran on the platform of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. ANP's Amirzada Khan was given a very tough time and he could not win the election with a difference of only a few votes.
Undoubtedly, Molana Hamdullah Jan (Dagai Babaji ) was a galaxy of Islamic sciences in Pakistan. He was also the Imam of mantiq, usool, fiqh , hadith and tafseer.
Prominent religious scholar, spiritual personality, Shaykh-ul-Quran and Hadith Molana Hamdullah Jan (Dagai Babaji ) passed away after a long illness۔He was 105 years old. Funeral prayers will be offered on Sunday at 2 pm at Dagai Swabi.
