Fiddle Faddle on Hammond Organ

in early October of '25, I mentioned that I would soon be posting a video of me playing Leroy Anderson's "Fiddle Faddle" on You Tube. But It's a lot more difficult than I remembered so I'm only now posting it, 4 weeks after I said I would. I last played it 40 years ago at an ATOS event, so playing it now after all that time was almost (but not quite) like starting over from step one. Anyhow here it is. I listened to several on line orchestral versions and I found that each was somewhat different, so I'm beginning to think that, like the pieces "Nola" and "Tico Tico," there are probably a number of slightly different versions of "Fiddle Faddle," all of which are essentially alike but differ with regard to minor details or the exact number of variations they contain. However, all of the orchestral versions I listened to pretty much play it at a similar speed which is around 280-300 beats per minute in 4/4 time. I found after several weeks of practice I could handle (just barely) 288 BPM. Almost the entire piece is in 8th notes, however so that makes the note playing rate 586 notes per minute.
Anyhow, here it is. Like Nola and Tico Tico, and a number of other selections, Fiddle Faddle is also a great finger exercise, way more interesting and fun than the usual finger exercises, and also the light and snappy key action and instantaneous response of a Hammond organ make that instrument ideal for playing music like this and a lot easier than doing it on a piano. In a couple of places, I also added a keyboard, both to produce a pizzicato string effect and then as a piano, adding my keyboard playing by overdubbing to my previously played Hammond part. Here's a timeline to go to specific places in the video. Don't forget, for best results, play this (and all music videos for that matter) through a decent speaker system or quality headphones. The small speakers in portable devices do not handle music well at all. One good option if you listen via a cell phone or other portable device is to plug your device's audio output into you car's sound system as most automotive sound systems are very good. Just be sure you aren't driving while watching and listening to any videos, please!
