This big stone is buried in a field in Hastinapur, situated on Behat road, 20 km from Gwalior. This legend is prevalent among the people of the region that this stone sword belongs to Alha-Udal of Veer Mahoba of Bundelkhand. Its hand is visible outside, which cannot come in the hands of an ordinary human. The stories of Alha-Udal Veer are still heard everywhere in Bundelkhand. Evidence of the close relation of Alha-Udal with Gwalior is also found in history. It is believed that Deval, the mother of the brave sons, was the daughter of Raja Dalpat of Gwalior.
Many things are popular about his sword buried in the field of Hastinapur, although its proven history is not available. Archaeological department officials admit to being buried in a sword field near Hastinapur, but deny the authentic history of whose it belongs. Neither the Archaeological Department has made any effort to preserve the sword nor has any investigation been done for its authenticity.
Villagers have kept the sword safe by fencing the wire: Hastinapur village is situated on the road going from Utila to Behat. The sword is buried in the ground between iron wire fencing in a field at some distance from the village. Its hands are visible from outside. Its handle is so thick that it is not easy to come in the hands of an ordinary human. Those who come here to see the sword, they also rub it and see whether it is of stone, or of metal. The sword looks like metal when it is worn.Such was Alha-Udal: Bundelkhand is the mother of brave sons. The Alha Khand was composed by Janiknath, the poet in the court of King Parmar. After attaining Veergati in the battlefield of Udal, brother Alha had crooked the tip of the sword in front of Mother Sharda on the orders of Guru Gorakhnath. It is believed that even today, Aalha comes to worship before the opening of the doors of Maa Sharda temple.
