1. Pre-Start (on the ground)

1. *Fuel valve* – Open.
2. *Battery master switch* – ON.
3. *Engine extension* – Start extension cycle via the panel switch or automatic mode until the propeller is fully deployed.
4. *Primer* – Set to Auto or Off depending on procedure.
5. *Ignition* – ON.
6. *Starter* – Engage once the engine is extended far enough for free propeller rotation.
7. *Warm-up* – Let the engine run at idle. Check oil pressure, oil and coolant temperature, RPM — all within green range.

2. Engine Operation in Flight

*Extending and starting the engine in flight:*

Only attempt over safe terrain and preferably **above 400 m AGL**.
Maintain *80–90 km/h (≈ 43–49 kts)* and flaps at about 8°.
*Fuel valve* open, *primer* in Auto*, **ignition* ON.
Once the engine starts, release starter and gradually advance throttle to climb power.
Be cautious when restarting a warm engine (coolant above ~45 °C); vapor bubbles may cause starting difficulty.

*Shutting down and retracting in flight:*

Use the rear-view mirror to visually confirm propeller position.
Maintain 85–90 km/h.
Throttle to idle, allow 30 seconds for cool-down.
*Ignition* OFF.
Engage *propeller brake* (or use the starter with ignition OFF) to bring propeller to stop in the correct position.
Once the propeller is correctly aligned, start the *retraction cycle* (automatic or manual switch).

3. After Landing / Ground Handling

If the engine was stowed in flight, avoid extending it during rollout on rough terrain to prevent stress on the mechanism.
After a ground test run, allow the engine to cool before retracting.

4. Emergency & Special Procedures

*Starter failure:* A “dive-start” (increased airspeed, prop windmilling) can sometimes restart the engine.
*Landing with extended powerplant:* Use flap setting ~8° (or “L”) and a slightly higher approach speed to compensate for drag.
