On behalf of Catholic Mission and the people of the Mpika Diocese in Zambia, we extend our heartfelt THANK YOU to Bishop Charles Gauci and to YOU for your generous support in this year’s 2025 Mission Sunday Appeal.
Across our Diocese, we witnessed the unique Northern Territory spirit of solidarity, prayer, and generosity. Schools and parish communities embraced the call to mission with enthusiasm and compassion.
In Catholic Education schools, students engaged deeply with the Socktober Mission Packs, growing in awareness of who they are fundraising for — and why supporting others is so important. They even created “sockballs” from recycled materials, a powerful formation experience helping them connect with the reality of young people around the world who face daily challenges.
Schools celebrated Mission Month through Masses, liturgies, and lunchtime rosaries. Students prayed the Hail Mary for Zambia, united in mission and hope. Teachers inspired their students to put their faith into action through creative fundraisers, mission stalls, and fun activities — including crowd favourites like Pie the Teacher, Sponge Toss, and Knock the Cups with Sockballs.
Our Diocesan Office team also joined the movement, hosting a delightful high tea with Bishop Charles Gauci to support the mission cause.
A standout highlight this year was the inaugural Socktober Parish Soccer Tournament, where volunteers from the Diocesan Office, parishes, and schools came together to cheer on parish teams in a dynamic charity competition. Kicking the “sockball” became a powerful symbol — representing the challenges we face, and the hope we find in prayer, community, and Christ.
Thank you once again for collaborating with Catholic Mission and for being missionaries of hope among all peoples. May God bless you abundantly. 🙏✨
