From one of my favorite Anime, Sound! Euphonium OP2 Soundscape.
Celebrating 2023 of this anime is going to publicize the third season!!!! Here's wishing for a good airing!
I'm going to introduce my idea for this arrangement.
1. Harmonies
The harmony of the original song has an interesting point at 00:13 where it uses a fast progression on four levels (SII-V-I), which is a classic pop song maneuver. I changed the SII/S to D/D/S, which is a heavy chord, to brighten up the sound, and this is also used in the chorus later on.
At 00:19 in the main song, the off-key chord D/TS VI (bBsus) on the sixth level appears frequently, and it's used in the following verses.
The seventh chord (Bmin) at 00:47 before the chorus is the finishing touch, it transitions to a dominant chord and brings the mood to a climax, this chord is used at the end of every chorus.
Then comes the colorful Bridge 02:41 before the end, which uses inverted chords. The original bass is hard to imitate, and uses various scale arpeggios to enrich the harmony, and then at the end, it changes a little bit, with the classic chromatic descending chord (6-#5-5-#4), which transitions to the fourth, and then follows the next part.
2. Rhythm and Weave
Chorus 00:56 I want to use a different rhythmic pattern for the left hand than for the main song, a more jumpy (back sixteenth note) rhythm (like a drum?).
Threehands technique
At the end of the chorus from 01:15 to 01:27 I used a big jumping three hands technique to keep the melody of the original song from being lost which I managed to practice for a very long time hahaha
For the second verse, 01:39, I used a relatively simple three-hands technique, swapping melodic voices between the left and right hands.
for the bridge part I've adapted the electric guitar solo from the original using mostly scales and arpeggios and for the last line at 03:26 I've used two consecutive octaves of upward scales on the fourth and fifth to drive the mood.
The last chorus at 03:31 was a bit of a brainstorming session where I was trying to use scales to achieve a three-handed technique, but I had to do a little bit of thinking in order to get the highest notes to line up with the melody hahahahaha and that made it a real pain in the ass to work on.
That's all for now! I love Kyoto Animation!
