US President Donald Trump has imposed a $100,000 annual fee on companies hiring H-1B visa workers, citing abuse of the program as a national security threat and a factor undermining American wages and jobs, particularly in the tech and sectors.
The new order restricts entry for foreign workers unless the fee is paid, arguing that outsourcing firms have exploited the system to replace American workers with lower-paid labour, causing layoffs and making it difficult for US college graduates to secure IT jobs.
