If you love old country fence posts, rusty wire, wildflowers, and song birds, this Jerry Yarnell PBS lesson is for you. In “Spring Song” (Episode 9947) from the Jerry Yarnell School of Fine Art, Jerry shows you how to:
Underpaint and block in a vertical spring composition
Turn simple colors into a realistic, weathered fence post
Mix a clean, rich “black” using ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, and purple
Paint twisted barbed wire—wraps, barbs, and splices that look believable
Use baby’s-breath splatter and soft accents for a natural wildflower field
Place flowers, vines, and a small bird to complete a balanced composition
You’ll learn real fine art techniques Jerry used in his workshops and PBS shows: brush handling, dry brushing, accenting with light, and using weeds and “weedy shapes” as beautiful design elements.
