I feel that the program notes best summarize the meaning of this tune:
"At its core, 'Another Lifetime' is a breakup song. I wrote this tune after a very serious long-term relationship I was in ended abruptly. While this chart is primarily about the bittersweetness of a romantic breakup, those feelings can also apply to the end of any kind of valuable interpersonal relationship. Whether it's a life partner or a close friend you've drifted apart from, there's almost always a fondness for the memories you created together that'll be missed--even if the end of that relationship is ultimately for the best. The memory of what things used to be often left me with the thought that in another lifetime, things might've worked out differently--hence the title."
