PhD. Socrates Stratis | Workshop 2 – Why Alice is not in Wonderland?

In the second workshop, PhD. Socrates Stratis invited participants to rethink architecture as an urban practice capable of generating alternative publics grounded in the commons. Through examples developed in Cyprus and other international contexts, he reflected on how the creation of counter-publics, the translation of differences, and creative disorientation can open spaces for interaction and negotiation within fragmented cities.

The session stood out for its participatory and interdisciplinary character, bringing together faculty members, students, and external guests in a collective conversation about the role of design in shaping the commons and reimagining urban imaginaries.

En este segundo workshop, el PhD. Socrates Stratis propuso repensar la arquitectura como práctica urbana capaz de generar públicos alternativos sustentados en los commons. A través de ejemplos desarrollados en Chipre y otros contextos internacionales, se reflexionó sobre cómo la creación de contra-públicos, la traducción de diferencias y la desorientación creativa pueden abrir espacios de interacción y negociación en ciudades fragmentadas.

La jornada destacó por su carácter participativo e interdisciplinario, donde docentes, estudiantes y público externo contribuyeron a una conversación colectiva sobre el rol del diseño en la construcción de lo común y la transformación de imaginarios urbanos.
