Alapo Adventure camp is a mere 8.9 km (24 mins by car) north of Baguio City in Pugis, La Trinidad, Benguet.
The camp is owned and operated by the same people who run - Tiny House - which is another campsite that offers, as the name suggests; small country-style houses for rent.
Alapo on the other hand is all about roughing it. It does, however, offer a few conveniences that a novice camper would appreciate. (i.e Toilets, mini-store on site, etc.)
Unlike most campsites in the area, Alapo has quite a spacious campground. Big enough to probably accommodate over 20 or more tents without issues and still with enough space in between for privacy.
However, the space allotted for car camping is quite limited. Only enough space for about 3 SUVs at best. Crammed in a small area near the camp entrance.
That being said, it may be best to schedule your camping trips on a weekday. Alapo can get quite busy over the weekends with tent campers which can pose a real privacy problem if your car camping near the camp entrance. People may unwittingly wander into your camp perimeter quite often to get to the other side of the campground….So yeah, go on a weekday if plan to go car camping. That’s what we did and we practically had the entire site to ourselves.
The camp is situated along what’s known as the Japanese Trail (Not sure why it’s called that. Googling it didn’t provide any clear answers). If I were to take a guess, it would probably have something to do with a Japanese physiological and psychological exercise called shinrin-yoku or “Forest bathing” which found popularity in the 80s. The purpose was twofold: to offer an eco-antidote to tech-boom burnout and to inspire residents to reconnect with and protect the country’s forests. Today, the trail is frequented by mountain bikers and people who like to take long walks into the woods, connecting with nature. Re-affirming what we knew all along; Time spent immersed in nature is good for us.
With the opening of the Alapo Adventure Camp, everyone can now camp within the trail grounds and take advantage of the physiological benefits of forest bathing.
