The Silver Shadow and Bentley T are by far the most successful models ever produced by the world's premier luxury car marques, yet they exist with three consequences. The Shadow began as the most technologically advanced car that Crewe had ever produced, combining monocoque construction, disc brakes, hydropneumatic suspension, and a tough V8 engine to build a legend. But in their own time, their success led to a period of apathy - where used prices tumbled and this silhouette came to define Rolls-Royce and Bentley through to their divorce near the millennium, necessitating their reinvention into their modern forms under BMW and Volkswagen.
