My Masjid combines Maghrib & Eeshaa’ is this permissible? What do i do if i attend to pray Maghrib?

• My local masjid in Birmingham has started to combine the Maghrib prayer and Eeshaa’ prayer together until the End of August, is this permissible because of Summer?
If they do combine the Prayer, and I come to the Masjid when they've started Eeshaa’ Prayer, canI pray behind the Imam and say Salaam and sit down on 3rd Rakaat, even though the Imam will be standing up?
