The Royal Academy of Arts (RA) is a prestigious London-based art institution, founded in 1768. It is the oldest fine arts institution in the world, and is home to one of the oldest and most prestigious art collections in the world. The RA's mission is to promote the creation, enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts through exhibitions, education and debate. It is a non-profit organisation which is largely funded by the British government. The RA offers a wide range of courses, lectures and workshops for art students and enthusiasts. It also hosts regular exhibitions and talks, as well as its annual Summer Show, which showcases the work of emerging artists. The RA also supports a number of awards, including the Turner Prize and the John Moores Painting Prize. The RA's galleries are open to the public and admission is free.
