The *Triyugi Narayan Temple* is an ancient and spiritually significant Hindu temple located in the Triyuginarayan village of the Rudraprayag district, *Uttarakhand**, India. Although the temple is dedicated to **Lord Vishnu**, it is most renowned for its association with the celestial wedding of **Lord Shiva* and **Goddess Parvati**.
Description
The temple is situated at an altitude of approximately 1,980 meters (6,500 ft) amidst the scenic Garhwal Himalayas. Its architecture is generally said to resemble that of the Badrinath shrine. The main deity of the temple is Lord Vishnu, also known as Triyugi Narayan.
A central feature of the temple is the *Akhand Dhuni**, an **eternal flame* burning in a hawan kund (sacrificial fire pit) in front of the temple. This flame is believed to have been burning continuously since the time of the divine wedding. Because of this, the temple is also known as the **Akhand Dhuni Temple**.
The temple complex also features four sacred bathing ponds, or *kunds*, formed from a water stream originating in the courtyard:
*Rudra Kund:* For bathing and purification.
*Vishnu Kund:* For cleansing and purification.
*Brahma Kund:* For sipping water before the puja.
*Saraswati Kund:* The source of all the other three *kunds*.
Near the temple is a unique stone called **Brahma Shila**, which is believed to be the exact spot where Lord Brahma, the creator, performed the marriage rituals.

Legend and Myths: The Divine Wedding
The fame and sanctity of the Triyugi Narayan Temple are rooted in the profound legend of the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
The Celestial Wedding Venue
Mythology states that the wedding of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati took place at this very spot in the Satya Yuga*. The word **Triyugi Narayan* itself is derived from Tri (three), Yuga (epochs/ages), and Narayan (another name for Vishnu), implying the place has significance across three epochs.
*Witness and Priest:* *Lord Vishnu**, the Preserver, is said to have served as Parvati's brother (to perform the duties of a brother) and facilitated the marriage ceremonies. **Lord Brahma**, the Creator, is believed to have acted as the chief priest, conducting the *vivah (wedding) rituals.
*The Eternal Fire:* The *Akhand Dhuni* is the sacred fire (*Agni*) before which the couple took their wedding vows (*saptapadi* or seven circumambulations). It is said to have been kept burning for three Yugas (Satya, Treta, and Dwapar), symbolizing the eternal and unbroken nature of their divine union.
Popularity as a Wedding Destination
Due to this legendary event, the Triyugi Narayan Temple has become a popular destination for couples seeking to get married. Many believe that getting married here, in front of the eternal flame that witnessed the celestial wedding, blesses the couple with eternal happiness and a marriage as divine and strong as that of Shiva and Parvati.
