We have been using the Internet as a matter of course for decades. But for the performing arts this medium has yet to be reinvented - or has to be reinvented over and over again. In the FFT, artists, scientists and coders present their digital tools for online performances, rehearsals and online encounters.
The transdisciplinary team eˉlektron from Tallinn, Estonia presents its virtual theater space, which is constantly being developed. The production group nota (Berlin) gives insights into their digital rehearsal and archiving tool. Together with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein we are opening our project Das Digitale Foyer, which is funded by the German Federal Cultural Foundation. There is also an impulse lecture by Tina Lorenz (Staatstheater Augsburg) on the current digital situation in German theater.
The event will be streamed live. You will find the stream from October 5th. here.
The digital foyer is a four-year project for the digital transformation of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the FFT Düsseldorf. Together with digital partners, we are looking for new meeting spaces in the opera and theater of the future. We focus on new, digital strategies of mediation and communication in hybrid, artistic spaces and foyers, taking into account the digital, urban public.
eˉlektron is a transdisciplinary platform for the performing arts that was created to develop collaboration between art and science. elektron.live is the stage of eˉlektron - a continuously adaptable virtual space that is developed according to the needs of artists. Together with the artists and the audience, eˉlektron finds out what is wanted or needed.
nota is assembly software developed jointly by artists and programmers. It offers special digital rooms for rehearsal processes or as a virtual archive. The program simulates an immense area and an almost infinite depth into which you can move and emerge from. The production community nota sees this as a technical, artistic and solidarity offer “to a restless network community”.
Born in Berlin, Tina Lorenz studied theater studies and American literary history in Vienna and Munich. She was a lecturer in theater history at the Academy for Performing Arts in Bavaria, later a dramaturge at the Landestheater Oberpfalz and finally a consultant for digital communication at the State Theater in Nuremberg. She is a founding member of the metalab Vienna and Binary Kitchen Regensburg hackspaces and sits on the selection committee of the Dortmund Academy for Theater and Digitality. She has been publishing and speaking on the subject of digital theater since 2012, including at re: publica Berlin, at nachtkritik.de and at the Heinrich Böll Foundation. In 2020 she will take over the position of project manager for digital development at the Augsburg State Theater.
The project is funded by the “Fonds Digital” of the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
