ÊTRE = to be

AVOIR = to have

👉 Both are essential verbs in French ✔️


🧍 Use ÊTRE for:

✅ Identity & profession

Je suis étudiant.

Elle est professeure.

✅ Emotions & states

Il est fatigué.

Nous sommes contents.


🎒 Use AVOIR for:

✅ Possession

J’ai un livre.

Ils ont une maison.

✅ Age (IMPORTANT!)

J’ai 20 ans ❌ NOT je suis 20 ans

✅ Common expressions
