Welcome to the Tzu Chi Center’s C.A.F.E. 229. Our monthly conversations are centered on the themes of compassion, action, freedom, and enlightenment. This month we’ll be speaking with host Dr. Joanne Chang and special guest Roshi Joan Halifax, Ph.D, medical anthropologist and founder of the Upaya Institute and Zen Center.
In this talk, Roshi Joan will discuss her pioneering work in end-of-life care, the role Buddhism and the Dharma plays in training compassionate chaplains, and the upbringing that shaped her incredible journey. She demonstrates that we can navigate the complex emotions that often come with death with grace, humility, and wisdom.
