This is one of the songs we recorded on our latest album "Pirates, Rovers and Rogues". The song concerns a famous Cornish smuggler called John Carter. He was a popular man in his local community as he shared his ill-gotten gains with his friends and neighbours. John carter was said to bear an uncanny resemblance to the King of Prussia and he acquired that nickname. The reference to "watch the wall when we go by" was a warning to anyone who looked at the smugglers as they brought the contraband into town. If you didn't actually see what was happening you could not be called on to give evidence; it didn't matter if you heard anything!
