The 1951 Portsmouth Field Gun Crew training at H.M.S Excellent Whale Island Portsmouth. The video shows the early years of the competition and should be of interest to ex Gunners and avid Field Gun enthusiasts! First Trainer was Blondie Coles. Dedicated to my Father Reg Ralph, his 19 year old mates from 1949 onwards and all Field Gunners particularly those who have 'Crossed The Bar' and not forgetting wife's & girlfriends who had to spend hours on trackside! Turn up the volume, should bring a smile and maybe a tear? Points of note:
1. 5-man carriage ride out
2. Gun launched through enemy wall before speedy wheels, using gun wheels
3. Belly Lanyards used by swing No3
4. Angel returning traveller from other side of ramp on run back
5. Carriage ride back
6. Gun hook rope carried home
