Through the first few weeks of the new NBA season, the Houston Rockets have flipped the script in a way that no one saw coming. After stumbling out of the gate with an 0-2 start, they’ve rattled off three straight victories—now standing at 3-2—and the league is beginning to take notice. Last season, Houston leaned on scraps of advantage—grab every rebound, claw every extra possession, and hope the half-court offense didn’t shut down in the playoffs. They posted a decent offensive rating, finishing 13th in the league with 115.3 points per 100 possessions, but when the postseason arrived and defenses hardened, the strain was obvious. Against the elite, particularly in battles with the Golden State Warriors, they faltered; their half-court production evaporated and the blueprint to beat them was clear.
