Hello and welcome to Day 2 of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and England coming live from MCG. End of a dramatic Boxing Day at the MCG! 20 wickets in the day! Australia leading by 46 runs into their 2nd innings with Scott Boland and Travis Head unbeaten. Josh Tongue picked up his career best 5/45 and it took England a little over 45 overs to skittle Australia for 152. Michael Neser was the top scorer with the bat hitting 35 in 49 deliveries with Usman Khawaja (29) and Alex Carey (20) the only other batters to score at least 20. Ashes Live. Ashes Live Today. Couple of wickets went down to Gus Atkinson with Brydon Carse and skipper Ben Stokes claiming one each. England's start with the bat was corrupted by Mitchell Starc and Michael Neser as the new ball sharing duo rattled the top order to bring the score down at 8/3 which soon became 16/4 as England's most prolific run scorer Joe Root perished for a duck.

Harry Brook (41) and Ben Stokes (16) then added 50 for the 5th wicket when Scott Boland dismissed the former and brought another collapse dismissing Jamie Smith and Will Jacks off consecutive overs. Neser also dismissed Stokes as the 8th English wicket to fall. Atkinson took the opportunity to swing his bat and added 28 important runs at the bottom order. Neser finished with 4/45 Boland picked up 3/30 Starc removed both the openers and Cameron Green wiped off the final wicket to help Australia get a 42-run lead with England bundled out for 110.

Atkinson delivered the only over possible in the Aussie second innings where Boland picked up 4 runs on the final ball off an outside edge. The last time 20 or more wickets fell on the opening day of an Ashes Test was in 1909 at Manchester when Australia were bowled out for 147 and England for 119.

Australia getting advantage again despite losing the toss as they lead by 46 runs at the moment which could be a big margin considering the way England has batted throughout the series and in this game as well. It was a crazy day at the MCG as wickets and records tumbled on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test. By stumps Australia had already started to bat in their second essay and have an overall lead of 46 runs.

As many as 20 wickets fell on the first day it's a first happening in a MCG Ashes Test since 1901-02. Australia were bundled out for 152 their 4th lowest Ashes home score and was followed by England's 110 their 3rd lowest total in an away Ashes Test since 2000. 451 balls was all it took for two innings to be completed and we weren't still done with Day 1. The pitch has come under the scanner with several experts terming the bowling conditions as 'extreme and unfair'. Will it get better to bat today? Or are we heading towards another early finish?

Head lets Boland lead him off the field and applauds the effort. So how much spice is too much spice? England and Australia will say 10mm of grass and 20 wickets on the first day of a Test match. Apparently the grass was 3mm more than the last Boxing Day Ashes Test here. The ICC rated the MCG pitch poor in 2018 because it was too flat. Will it come under the firing line now because it's doing too much?
