I finally talked my dad into ditching his SoClean ozone cleaner, but he wasn't looking forward to washing his CPAP equipment by hand now. So I walked him through my process. It's easy! 5 simple steps once a week, and it only takes about five active minutes of cleaning and an hour-and-a-half of doing whatever else you wanna do.
1) Load your gear into a plastic kitchen basin and bring it to the sink.
2) Dump your humidifier reservoir, put some Dawn in your hose and sprinkle some around the basin (and maybe a bit of white vinegar once a month) and fill the basin with hot water.
3) Go do something else for half an hour.
4) Rinse your gear and (optional) put it in a Hurricane CPAP Dryer.
5) Wait for it to dry.
Equipment you need for my process:
1) A good kitchen basin, which you can buy at Amazon: https://amzn.to/3dIsB9I
2) A Hurricane CPAP Dryer: https://amzn.to/3qUYCks
Other gear mentioned herein: Dishwasher-safe reservoir for ResMed AirSense 10: https://amzn.to/3AwsQOP (the regular one is not dishwasher-safe).
You might also want to get some CPAP wipes to clean your machine weekly, and also your mask daily if you don't want to wash it: https://amzn.to/3jOVWmL
(As an Amazon Associate, I might earn a few pennies here and there from qualifying purchases.)
Your mask may look a little different and you might not have washable filters (ResMed machines don't), but otherwise, you can follow along with us and get your hose and mask and reservoir nice and clean once a week.
By the way, check out the damage that ozone has done to my dad's mask. And it's only a few months old! Also, his humidifier reservoir (only about six months old) was covered in a film of grime and gunk. Yeah, SoClean had killed the bacteria, but their tiny corpses were still hanging around, waiting to be inhaled. Ick!
