Opening Lap – Why It Matters | 992 GT3 RS @ Gotland Ring
This wasn't about chasing lap records – not yet.
After nearly three years away from track driving, I jumped into a brand new 992 GT3 RS for the first time. The goal: establish a baseline.
Last time I drove at Gotland Ring was in 2022, and I haven’t done much driving since. This was my first RS session – and just like with the 992 GT3, I’ll return two more times. The goal: dip under 3 minutes.
Session Summary
Started with a few slow laps (3:30–4:00 pace) to get cameras, tire pressures and the Track Precision app dialed in.
Then: five proper laps.
Lap 5: 3:06.8 on CUP2s – just 1.9s off my personal best (3:04.9 in a 992 GT3 on CUP2 Rs).

Had I been on CUP2 Rs in the RS, I’d likely have matched that GT3 time. The potential is there.
Driving Analysis
Looking at my 2022 GT3 PB in the Track Precision app, it’s clear: In my first laps now in New 992 GT3 RS…I am in wrong gears in key corners, early braking, completely missing the RS’s aero braking potential etc.
But that’s the point of a first session – to learn. The car is new, and I’m rusty. No expectations.
The upside? Both the car and I have plenty more to give.
What’s Next?
Two more sessions with the RS at Gotland Ring – with the goal of going sub-3.
Then it’s Nürburgring Nordschleife – no sim, no prep, just show up and drive. The first lap won’t be perfect, but it’ll be honest. Just me, the RS, and the Track Precision app.
Car Specs
• 992 GT3 RS: steel brakes, steel cage, BOSE, no Weissach, no lift – 1536 kg no driver (full fluids)
• 992 GT3: identical spec – 1510 kg no driver
→ Both weighed on the same calibrated scale
→ Driver weight: 80 kg (add this to car and you get the total kg with me in car)
Performance Setup (stock Manthey alignment)
• Camber: -2.80° front & rear
• Toe: slight toe-in front & rear
• Anti-roll bars: soft front (1/3), medium rear (2/3)
