​The Chilkur Balaji Temple is one of the oldest temples in Telangana, with a history dating back over 500 years (believed to be the 17th Century).
​Founders: The temple is traditionally believed to have been built during the era of Akkanna and Madanna, who were high-ranking officials in the court of Abul Hassan Tanashah, the last Qutb Shahi ruler. They were also the uncles of the famous Bhakti saint, Bhadrachala Ramadasu.

​Divine Call: A dedicated devotee, unable to travel to Tirupati for his annual darshan due to severe illness, was blessed with a vision. Lord Venkateswara appeared in his dream and instructed him that He was present in a nearby jungle.
​The Miracle: The devotee found a molehill at the indicated spot. While digging, his axe accidentally struck the idol's chin and chest, causing blood to flow profusely.
​Self-Manifestation (Swayambhu): Upon following a divine instruction to flood the spot with cow's milk, a Swayambhu (self-manifested) idol of Lord Balaji arose from the earth, accompanied by his consorts, Sridevi and Bhoodevi (a rare sight).

​No Hundi (Donation Box): The temple famously does not accept any monetary donations or material offerings from devotees.
​No VIP Darshan: There is no provision for a "Green Channel" or VIP ticketed entry, upholding the principle that all devotees, from the Prime Minister to the common person, are equal before the Lord.
​The Visa God: The temple gained immense fame in the 1980s when it was attributed with granting the wishes of devotees, particularly those seeking visas for foreign travel, earning it the nickname 'Visa Balaji'.
​The Pradakshina Ritual: Devotees typically perform 11 circumambulations (pradakshinas) while making a vow. Once the wish is fulfilled, they return to perform 108 pradakshinas in gratitude
