In John chapter 9, we encounter a profound truth that challenges our understanding of suffering and purpose. A man born blind becomes the canvas upon which God displays His glory, teaching us that our pain is never without purpose. When the disciples ask who sinned to cause this man's blindness, Jesus redirects their perspective entirely: this happened so that the works of God might be displayed. What a revolutionary concept—our struggles, our pain, our brokenness are not punishments or cosmic accidents, but opportunities for God to show off through us. The blind man's journey from darkness to light mirrors our own spiritual awakening. He walks by faith with mud on his eyes, unable to see yet trusting the words of Jesus. When he returns seeing, he faces skepticism, interrogation, and ultimately rejection from religious authorities. Yet his testimony remains simple and powerful: I was blind, but now I see. We don't need all the theological answers or perfect apologetics—sometimes the most powerful witness is simply sharing what Jesus has done in our lives. This story reminds us that spiritual blindness is far more dangerous than physical blindness, and that those who think they see most clearly may actually be walking in the deepest darkness. Jesus changes everything—our identity, our perspective, our voice, and our purpose.
