This is a cover I had recorded the video for back in January 2025. At the time, I had only recorded a backing track for this piece because I was going to perform it at a wedding in March 2025. I believe I played it well at the wedding. It was my full intention to do a complete cover of this, but I got lazy. It was only until now that I decided to finish this cover.
This whole process of recording this cover was a pain. It might be because of the arrangement I decided to use to learn this song. I think this is the reason because even after I recorded everything, I found positions that made certain parts much easier to play. Most notably, the ending phrase. Also, the guitar I used to record the melody was not easy to play. It might just be an electric guitarist thing since that guitar uses acoustic guitar strings.
Here, I can really hear the difference in playing quality from back then and now. Since I recorded the rhythm tracks in January and the melody tracks now in November, the rhythm tracks are really lacking. There is a lot of unwanted string noise and fret buzzing which I would not let happen now. I think back then I was in a hurry, so I did not bother to record completely clean takes. Although, parts of the melody are not played accurately which might upset some people. I was mainly trying to match what I played in the video in January. I would obviously do a much better job now.
I am also not sure if adding drums to this would have made the cover better, but I think leaving the drums out was a good call.
I used to get tutored by someone named Bill. For some reason, I wanted to listen to some music, so I asked Bill if I could, which he allowed. I decided to listen to Chillswitch Engage by Sean Townsend. The next time I went to Bill, he gave me a blue USB drive with "Einaudi" written on it, and he told me that the music I was listening to last time sounded like music from this artist named Einaudi. I had full intention of listening to it someday. However, I just left the USB drive on my desk. It had always been there for maybe around two years (and it still is on my desk). One day, I was sitting inside the cafeteria of my former high school. My friend, Zilu, was playing a piece on the cafeteria piano. I thought it sounded pretty, and I asked him what the name of the piece was. He said, "Nuvole Bianche." I looked it up on the computer, and I said with a shocked expression, "Einaudi?" I then remembered Bill giving me that USB drive with "Einaudi" written on it. I then decided to go home and listen to the music that was on that USB drive. It did sound like Chillswitch Engage.
This cover is dedicated to Bill Rishel and Zilu Zheng.
