THE PLEVNE MARCH (PLEVNE MARŞI)

“The Plevna March” is a march that tells of the heroism displayed by the Ottoman army under the leadership of Osman Pasha during the Siege of Plevna in the Ottoman–Russian War of 1877–1878.

Gazi Osman Pasha was one of the most important military leaders of the Ottoman Empire. His full name was Gazi Osman Nuri Pasha. He was born in 1832 and died in 1900. Osman Pasha served in several wars, including the Crimean War and the Ottoman–Russian War of 1877–1878, also known as the War of ’93. One of his most famous and significant achievements was his heroism during the Siege of Plevna. Leading the Ottoman resistance against Russian forces, Osman Pasha managed to hold back the enemy for a long time, buying valuable time for the empire. This resistance stirred great enthusiasm among the Ottoman people, and the heroism of Plevna ensured that Osman Pasha’s name would live on throughout history.

They probed the outposts.
On Osman Pasha’s arm,
Five thousand cannons fired at once.

He struck his sword upon the stone,
And the stone split from end to end.
Glorious Osman Pasha,
Live thousands of years with your soldiers.

Can a brother strike his brother?
You traitors to the nation,
Will this homeland ever belong to you?

"Plevne Marşı" Osman Paşa'nın liderliğindeki Osmanlı ordusunun, 1877-1878 Osmanlı-Rus Savaşı sırasında Plevne Kuşatması'nda gösterdiği kahramanlığı anlatan bir marştır.

Gazi Osman Paşa ise Osmanlı Devletinin önemli askeri liderlerinden biridir. Tam adı Gazi Osman Nuri Paşa'dır. 1832 yılında doğmuş ve 1900 yılında ölmüştür. Osman Paşa, Kırım Savaşı ve 93 Harbi olarak bilinen 1877-1878 Osmanlı-Rus Savaşı gibi çeşitli savaşlarda görev almıştır. En ünlü ve önemli başarılarından biri, Plevne Kuşatması sırasında gösterdiği kahramanlıktır. Plevne'deki direnişiyle tanınan Osman Paşa, Osmanlı ordusunun Plevne'deki Rus kuvvetlerine karşı sürdürdüğü direnişin liderliğini yapmış ve düşmanı uzun süre durdurarak zaman kazandırmıştır. Bu direniş, Osmanlı halkı arasında büyük bir coşku uyandırmış ve Plevne kahramanlığı Osman Paşa'nın adını tarih boyunca yaşatmıştır.
