Vol: 2 Rialto Square Theatre Terrazzo Restoration - Filling Pinholes & Honing Begins

In Volume 2 of our Rialto Square Theatre terrazzo restoration series, we dive deeper into the intricate process of transforming these historic floors. After completing the initial grinding, it was time to address the fine details and start honing the surface to bring out the terrazzo's beauty.

Pinhole Filling:

We began by meticulously filling in all the pinholes and small imperfections across the terrazzo surface using a specially mixed resin. These pinholes are a natural part of the terrazzo, and filling them ensures a smooth and even surface, preparing the floor for the honing and polishing stages.

Removing Excess Resin:

Once the resin had set, our team carefully removed the excess material. This step is essential to achieve a level surface, blending the repairs seamlessly with the existing terrazzo. The attention to detail in this phase lays the foundation for a flawless final finish.

Honing Process:

Next, we started the honing process, moving from 200 grit all the way to 3500 grit to gradually refine the terrazzo surface. Each successive grit level removed finer scratches, enhancing the smoothness and preparing the floor for the high-gloss polish. This multi-step honing process brings back the elegance of the original terrazzo, ensuring a consistent and reflective surface throughout.
