Our ride begins in the cool and misty town of Nuwara Eliya, often called Little England for its colonial architecture, lush gardens, and tea plantations. The chilly morning breeze, surrounded by endless greenery and fog-covered peaks, creates the perfect atmosphere for a motorbike adventure. Before starting the journey, I take a short stop at Gregory Lake, where the calm water reflects the early sunlight and the majestic hills. With my helmet on and the engine roaring, I start heading down the winding roads towards Pussallawa, ready to experience the thrill of Sri Lanka’s mountain roads.

As I descend from Nuwara Eliya towards Pussallawa, the landscape starts to transform. The road gets curvier, revealing breathtaking views of deep valleys and distant waterfalls. Pussallawa is a small town surrounded by endless tea plantations, where local tea pluckers move gracefully through the slopes in their colorful dresses.

This stretch of the ride is truly a biker’s dream — long curves, steep climbs, and perfect asphalt make it an exhilarating experience. I take a few breaks along the way to capture the misty mountain views and enjoy a hot cup of Ceylon tea from a roadside stall, chatting with friendly locals who always have a smile and a story to share.

Back on the bike, I ride through Gampola town, passing bustling streets filled with small shops, fruit sellers, and tuk-tuks. The diversity of sights and sounds here contrasts beautifully with the quiet of the tea country.

Leaving Gampola, I head toward Peradeniya, a town famous for its Royal Botanic Gardens, which feature over 4,000 species of plants. The roads become wider and more urban, yet the mountain views still peek from the distance. The Peradeniya bridge crossing the Mahaweli River is a highlight — its colonial design and the flowing river beneath make it a beautiful spot to pause and admire the view.

As I approach Kandy, the temperature rises and the scenery changes once again. The winding mountain roads give way to urban life, with buses, cars, and people everywhere. But nothing compares to the feeling of riding into the heart of Kandy, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic cities, surrounded by hills and centered around the serene Kandy Lake.

I park my bike near the Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa) — a sacred Buddhist temple and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The rhythmic sound of temple drums, the smell of flowers and incense, and the peaceful energy of the place make it a perfect end to this scenic journey.
