India's Cold Desert is NOW a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve!

In a major win for conservation, India's Cold Desert Biosphere Reserve has been added to UNESCO's World Network of Biosphere Reserves as of September 27th! This recognition is a global endorsement of India's efforts to protect one of its most unique and fragile ecosystems.

Located in the high-altitude western Himalayas, the Cold Desert is far more than a barren landscape. It's a thriving hub of biodiversity, home to endangered species like the snow leopard, Tibetan antelope, and Himalayan wolf. The region also boasts over 500 plant species, 118 of which are medicinal, and supports local communities that have lived in harmony with this land for centuries.
