(14 Sep 2014) AMY WINEHOUSE STATUE REVEALED IN LONDON
A life-size bronze statue of singer Amy Winehouse was unveiled in Camden, north London on Sunday.
( Sept.14 2014)
The event, three years after her death, coincides with what would have been her 31st birthday.
Her father, Mitch Winehouse, said ""It's a day of incredibly mixed emotions ladies and gentlemen. They don't put statues up to people that are with us anymore, so it kind reinforces the fact that physically she's gone. But spiritually, she'll never leave us."
Created by sculptor Scott Eaton, the statue features the Back to Black star with her hand on hip and her trademark beehive hairdo.
"The design for me as the artist, the design process starts with understanding the person.
Amy was about attitude. She was small but she had big personality." explained the sculptor.
The statue was originally destined for the Roundhouse music venue, but is now in the middle of the popular tourist attraction the Stables Market.
The singer died at her home in 2011 at the age of 27.
She had previously struggled with alcohol and drug abuse. The inquest into her death found she died of accidental alcohol poisoning.
Her family set up a foundation in her name to help young people with problems including addiction.
