Surprising Finds on Route 66: Antiques, Vintage & Mid-Century!

We’re on another fun stretch of the famed Route 66, where a cluster of antique malls lines this historic highway! We made a left turn at Albuquerque and were rewarded when we arrived at Antiques & Things—a mostly mid-century vintage mall with some real antique surprises.

The first thing we see is Beaumont Per-Lux lighting and an exotic bird vase—obscure and lovely pieces that I’ve only seen before in books! This is a good omen, as unusual and interesting finds abound here—from vintage Pendleton and Avoca woolens to Dansk ice buckets, a strange taxidermy horse hoof inkwell, and scarce Russel Wright clocks and carafes!

Shopping for things my collectors love gets easier when we stumble across a 50%-off booth, where Hull and Weller pottery, an attractive Consolidated Line 700 vase in bright blue wash, Northwest Native ethnography, and a bargain-priced large Pottery Craft vase start filling my cart! A cool wildlife-patterned ice bucket and other fun finds make their way to the counter as we comb this place for deals.

Regional art, bags of 1920s Tootsietoy doll furniture, and a French vitrine (marked sold) add to the excitement. The variety of vintage here is the real surprise! Alamo Pottery, a rare Weltron 8-track player, and a case of early Dungeons & Dragons game books are things seen here that we haven’t seen in other antique malls. Gene Byron sculptures, Hornsea Pottery, and Metlox Poppets all have stories to tell that we haven’t heard here before, while guitars, a John Lennon gold record, and a big metal horse add wow factor to this really interesting antique center!

We leave with all we can stuff into our van, thrilled to have found another amazing Albuquerque antique stop along the nation’s most famous highway!
