Cockatoo Island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Sydney Harbour, NSW, Australia, situated near the confluence of the Parramatta and Lane Cove Rivers. Cockatoo Island is the largest of several islands formed from highly forested sandstone knolls.
From 1857 to 1991, Cockatoo Island's historic shipbuilding and repair facilities played an important part in Australia's nautical past. Today, 17 steam-powered and electrical cranes from this era remain together with the island's remaining port facilities, these historic cranes and facilities provide a insight into the islands 134 year operational period.
