CANEY
Fernando Storch, known professionally as Caney, was born in Havana, Cuba. He came to this country in 1930 and two years later formed an instrumental quartet which opened in the club Kubanakan, where they caught on rapidly. Those were the days when the Rumba and the Conga were new on the night club scene. As they became popular, so did Caney and his Quartet. Once launched, he started on an unbroken tour of engagements which reads like an itinerary of the most fashionable night-spots in the country: in New York the Toreador, the Hotel Weyl ing, the St. Moritz, the Yumuri, the Havana Madrid, La Conga, the Hur ricane, and Latin Quarter; in Palm Beach-the Colony Club: in Miami-the Beachcomber; in Washington-the Club del Río: in Chicago-the Gateway, the Colony Club and the Rumba Casino.
