Oregun Egungun Festival 2025 Has Begun – Ibodo Oko Day & Ita Day Compilation
The long awaited Odun Egungun of Oregun has officially begun!
This video brings you a full documentary compilation of Ibodo Oko Day and Ita Day, two major ancestral outings that mark the opening days of the festival season.
EGUNGUN ADINIMODO – First Appearance of the Day
Before the Olori Egungun appears, the video features Egungun ADINIMODO, who comes out immediately after the Agan Rite is completed.
Adinimodo appears early in the morning, symbolizing the transition from the sacred Agan night into the public festival day.
He is the first Egungun to come out on this day, preparing the spiritual atmosphere before AMULUDUN comes out in the afternoon.
IBODO OKO DAY (Olori Egungun’s First Grand Outing)
On Ibodo Oko Day, the Olori Egungun (Head of All Egungun) — AMULUDUN SE BI OBA — emerges wearing his ancestral crown, accompanied by all Egun Alagbada, each representing different family households of Oregunland.
During this sacred outing, AMULUDUN:
• Parades through the community
• Cleanses the land spiritually
• Blesses the young, the old, barren women, and widows
• Pays homage at shrines and sacred ancestral spots
• Returns to meet the King and the community gathered to welcome the Egungun King
Ibodo Oko Day officially opens the festival season with blessings and ancestral guidance.
ITA DAY (The Third Day of Odun Egungun)
The video then transitions into Ita Day, the third day of the festival, when Amuludun comes out again for a second round of blessings.
ON ITA DAY, AMULUDUN:
• Prays for the community
• Blesses market women and traders
• Visits important locations he could not reach on Ibodo Oko Day
• Continues the ancestral journey with all Egun Alagbada surrounding him
This outing deepens the spiritual protection and prosperity of the land.
ARIWODOLA – Community Egungun Display
After the Ita Day rites, the community witnesses Ariwodola, a powerful display announcing the grand opening of the Egungun performance season.
Each household Egungun will later have its own special display day.
CULTURAL FLOGGING – A Prayer for Long Life
The video also shows people flogging themselves — a traditional practice across Egungun towns.
It symbolizes:
“As I flog you this year, may we both live long enough to flog each other again next year.”
This act is a communal prayer for long life, health, and continuity.
This documentary preserves the sacred heritage of Oregunland — its ancestral rites, community values, and the powerful presence of the Egungun.
