TOORO KINGDOM LAUNCHES HATCHERY BUILDING IN KYEGEGWA

KYEGEGWA — Tooro Kingdom has officially launched a new hatchery building in Kyegegwa District, a development expected to boost agricultural production, improve household incomes, and support food security in the region.

The facility, which will be used for poultry hatching and related activities, is aimed at supporting farmers with access to quality chicks and modern farming knowledge. Kingdom officials said the project is part of Tooro Kingdom’s wider strategy to promote commercial agriculture and empower communities through sustainable livelihoods.

Speaking at the launch, leaders from the Kingdom emphasized the importance of value addition and modern farming practices, noting that poultry farming remains one of the fastest ways for households, especially youth and women, to generate income. The hatchery is also expected to reduce farmers’ dependence on distant suppliers and lower production costs.

Local leaders in Kyegegwa welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and aligned with government efforts to improve agricultural productivity and reduce poverty. They noted that the facility will create employment opportunities and strengthen collaboration between the Kingdom, farmers, and development partners.

Once fully operational, the hatchery will serve farmers from Kyegegwa and neighboring districts, providing not only chicks but also training and technical support.
