Mario Vargas Llosa 1936–2025

Mario Vargas Llosa fought for freedom of expression and human rights through his writing. His style was experimental, exploring different techniques of narrative, depicting the passage of time, and blending fact with fiction. He was driven by the need to speak and artfully amplified the power of his words in a way that was uniquely his own.

Vargas Llosa was awarded the 2010 literature prize "for his cartography of structures of power and his trenchant images of the individual's resistance, revolt, and defeat."
