We are at Metra's 16th Street Tower, which governs movements at the 16th Street diamond crossing of Metra's Rock Island District and Canadian National's Freeport and Chicago Subdivisions, where we see the tower in its last two days of manned service, before control got cut over to the Consolidated Control Facility at BNSF 14th Street Yard. All trains are listed below, and they include Metra, Amtrak, and CN trains. Video also includes the inside of the tower. The tower was built in 1901 and placed into service in 1902. It has a custom-built signal plant built by Taylor Signal Company. The signals are operated with the original pistol-grip levers. All videos in and around the tower were taken with written permission from Metra, and all exterior videos were taken while escorted by an employee (or employees) of Metra who were rules qualified. Enjoy the views from both inside and outside of the tower, as well as the nice variety of trains. It will certainly be a different place now that the tower has been decommissioned. Hopefully the plant machinery and the structure can be saved, since the diamond will be shifted into position where the tower currently stands. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The videos were taken on April 10th, April 11th, and into the morning of April 12th, until 3AM on the 12th. Train Info can be found in the first comment.
