We’re in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to film at a restaurant called Sambal Hijau which is well known for serving a large variety of traditional kampung (village) dishes. In addition to over 80 dishes they also serve desserts, ikan baker (grilled fish) and sup (soup). We load our plates up with rice and then make our way to the bain marie which is loaded up with a delectable range of food.

We sample masak lemak nangka (jackfruit cooked in a coconut and turmeric gravy), kicap manis chicken, beef tendon, sambal sardine, sambal eggplant and heaps more!!

This style of eating is very common in Malaysia- particularly in Malay restaurants. You get charged for the amount of each dish you take and they all vary in price. It’s a brilliant way to sample a range of different dishes and to eat hearty, local food. We will definitely be returning to Sambal Hijau to sample more dishes!!
