Shinobue Flute: "Suteki Da Ne" Final Fantasy X, Japanese Flute

I hear Final Fantasy X is the saddest of all FF series. Why do they break up at the end?? 💔😭 Suteki da ne, is such a beautiful melody. It sounds very romantic but sad at the same time, as if it's predicting what comes at the end. What happens between this scene and the end? I've never played this game (I'm not a gamer), but I'm really curious! I feel that if I understood the relationship, I could play this song better.
