Join me for a peaceful day at Forest Lagoon, a stunning geothermal spa located just 10 minutes from Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland. Opened in 2022, this hidden gem combines natural beauty with Icelandic wellness.
We start our day driving through Akureyri’s colorful neighborhoods, passing the iconic heart-shaped traffic lights and the Akureyri Church, before arriving at the Forest Lagoon surrounded by lush forest and overlooking Eyjafjörður Fjord.
The lagoon features two geothermal pools — one at 37°C with swim-up bars and another at 40°C for a hotter soak — plus a Finnish dry sauna with panoramic views, and a refreshing cold plunge pool. The water comes straight from a nearby mountain, rich in minerals and naturally heated by Iceland’s geothermal energy.
After a relaxing soak, we explore the area and head back to Akureyri for some Chinese takeaway before ending the night at our cozy Airbnb. Whether you’re traveling through Iceland in summer or winter, the Forest Lagoon is the perfect place to unwind — more affordable than the Blue Lagoon and just as magical.
