This fly can be tied with varying amounts of deer hair for the wing depending on if you want to imitate an adult caddis (use more) or just have enough floatation for it to ride in the surface film as a soft-hackle (use less). Then you can also fish it on the surface of as a sunken adult, like an diving egg-layer. The Ice Dub body creates a translucent effect and reflect light appearing as if alive. The brown partridge soft-hackle collar is a two-feather compensation method that creates a denser and more evenly distributed hackle collar and can be used for feathers that would otherwise be too large for the hook size. In other words, this fly can be adapted to the water type and insect life stage and appearance you want. Give it a tie and try and let me know how it works for you.
