Fluid Art Desert Landscape
11x14
Technique: funnel
PM: Floetrol and tried a dash of Liquitex PM this time
Consistency: medium to thin
Paint Brand: Liquitex Basics except white is Artist’s Loft Acrylic/soft body mix
Sky Colors: 3 custom blue mixes - primarily Liquitex Basics light blue base. One very light near the horizon with a lot of white and some gray and yellow. 3 off white to gray mixes for clouds mostly made with titanium white and savaged paint. Using salvaged gray paint can result in some unexpected undertones so I add some neutral gray Liquitex Basics to try to minimize the surprises.
Sky Layers - generally layer light first to dark last. Reusing funnel for touch up pours helps blend colors and get some nuance.
Land Colors: dark brown mix (burnt Umber and black - thicker) and darker Burnt Sienna Mix. 1 yellow/tan mix made from savaged paint. 1 gray/green mix made from salvaged paint.
Land Layers: dark colors go in funnel first - always. Use fresh funnels more often because the residual dark colors get very muddy very easily if they are not the first one in. The dark pillow can stretch out nicely when you tilt.
General rule: the first colors in the funnel will form a pillow on the surface with the other paint falling under it. The first color will stretch out over the other paints - revealing the layers underneath. Sometimes you have to trust the layers will reveal themselves. Personally I like a lot of tilting to get some really subtle thin lines and shading I could never get with a brush.
