Recorded direct to 2 track. No mixing or overdubs. I played an African talking drum and drum set.
Trumpet player extraordinaire Larry Williams used to organize gigs under the name LAQT (Los Angeles Quartet) We never played any tunes. We would show up to a gig, or in this case a recording studio and make up the music from nothing. It was challenging, but always fun. I got to jam with bassist Derek Oles on one of those nights, a mind-blowing learning experience. Somehow he made me sound like I knew what I was doing.
This session included another Derek on bass. Derek Frank is a fantastic bass player who has toured with some of the biggest acts out there. He was key on this day, with his catchy and groovy bass lines. I had worked with Jeff Miley a lot. Gifted guitarist and great hang, Larry Williams was part of the horn section in my corporate bands and had the concept for this free jazz project .. inspired very much by Miles Davis' Bitches Brew era.
I haven't listened to these recordings in over 20 years.
