Every Tuesday and Thursday at 4:00pm a small choir called the Century Singers met in DePauw University’s practice room under the direction of Dr. Stanley Irwin.
Perhaps the repertoire had been used more than once before in years past, and this tenor a little more than unable to wake up from the college student’s 4pm drowse, but many days the music and harmony was magical all the way through the Indiana autumn, winter to the excitement of Spring.
Dr. Irwin has since passed away. He was kind enough to read through the second of this choir madrigal cycle in 1987, and being a true mentor had always been supportive and encouraging from when I started with the choir as a teenager and later as a professional singer.
These pieces are dedicated to him and that choir. They have yet to be premiered.
