► This video features non-UN member states that are partially recognized by a UN or a fellow non-UN member state. This means partially-recognized UN member states like China, South Korea, North Korea, Israel, Armenia and Cyprus are NOT included.
► The State of Palestine is a UN observer state that Israel claims its territory as 'disputed' territory. It is recognized by more than half of UN member states.
► The Republic of China (Taiwan) is not a UN member state and is claimed by the People's Republic of China as part of its sovereign territory. It is still recognized by a handful of UN member states.
► The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (Western Sahara) is not a UN member state and is claimed by Morocco as part of its sovereign territory. It is still recognized by a handful of UN member states.
► The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is not a UN member state and is claimed by the Republic of Cyprus as part of its sovereign territory. It is only recognized by one UN member state, Turkey.
► Abkhazia and South Ossetia are not UN member states and is claimed by Georgia as part of its sovereign territory. Abhkazia is recognised by 6 UN member states (Russia, Syria, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Nauru, and Vanuatu) and three non-UN member states (South Ossetia, Artsakh) while South Ossetia is recognized by 5 UN member states (Russia, Syria, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Nauru), and four non-UN member states (Abkhazia, Artsakh, Transnistria, and the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic)
► Kosovo is not a UN member state and is claimed by Serbia as part of its sovereign territory. It is recognized by quite a lot of UN member states, including the United States, France, Albania and many more.
► The Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (Transnistria) is not a UN member state and is claimed by Moldova as part of its sovereign territory. It is only recognized by three non-UN members: Abkhazia, Artsakh and South Ossetia.
► The Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) is not a UN member state and is claimed by Azerbaijan as part of its sovereign territory. It is recognised by three non-UN members: Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transnistria.
► Somaliland is not a UN member state and is claimed by Somalia as part of its sovereign territory. It is not recognized by any other UN or non-UN member state, but it maintains unofficial relations with several UN member states and the Republic of China. Somaliland is the exception to the first note, as it is de facto independent and it satisfies the declarative theory of statehood.
► De facto independent states that do not explicitly claim to be independent states such as Galmudug and Puntland in Somalia, Gaza in Palestine, the Kurdistan Region in Iraq, Rojava in Syria, and the Wa State in Myanmar are not included.
► The Sovereign Military Order of Malta, micronations, unstable proto-states, and rebel groups that proclaim independence but does not meet the threshold of a sovereign state under international law such as the Donetsk People's Republic and the Luhansk People's Republic are not included.
