While treatments can be controversial, they help provide a market for a wide variety of qualities of natural gemstones, which helps keep the supply chain going. Ruby, the king of gemstones, is no exception in often being treated. The degree of treatment varies from none to minimal to a total make-over and can affect value accordingly.
