India Creates a Nightmare for China and America’s Submarines — that’s not just a bold title, it’s a reality of modern military power. India’s DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) is working on a revolutionary system known as SMART — Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo. Instead of relying on close-range sonar detection, SMART combines long-range missile technology with advanced torpedoes. Here’s how it works: India can detect an enemy submarine passively, pinpoint its location with anti-submarine helicopters, and then launch a supersonic missile from a destroyer. That missile, traveling at speeds faster than sound, can cover a distance of over 650 kilometers. When it reaches the target zone, it releases a high-speed torpedo underwater. This torpedo, three times faster than conventional ones, then hunts down the enemy submarine.

The result? China and America’s submarines — which feel safe at long distances — are suddenly vulnerable. At 650 kilometers away, no submarine crew expects a weapon to reach them. By the time they realize a missile has been launched, it’s too late. Traditional countermeasures, such as decoys that trick sonar-guided torpedoes, won’t save them. India’s SMART weapon changes the rules of undersea warfare.

Why is this so important? Because China currently operates over 70 submarines, including nuclear-powered ones that threaten India in the Indian Ocean. America’s submarine fleet is also one of its strongest tools of global dominance. But with SMART, India could neutralize these submarines quickly, cheaply, and effectively — making China’s and America’s fleets far less intimidating. In other words, India is creating a weapon that makes Chinese and American submarines obsolete.

This isn’t just about weapons — it’s about strategy. India is showing the world that being peaceful does not mean being weak. Instead of copying America’s sonar-heavy approach or China’s massive submarine fleet, India is choosing innovation. By combining missiles and torpedoes in one integrated system, India is creating a nightmare for its rivals and changing the balance of naval power.
