2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Review // This or Hyundai Tucson?

This is a Motormouth couple car review of the new 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid SUV. Hyundai has recently released a Tucson Hybrid model and this Santa Fe, both of which share the same power plant. It is a 1.6L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a 6 speed automatic paired with a 1.49 kWh battery pack and a 44.2 kW electric motor. Total output is 226 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. AWD only. We just reviewed the Tucson Hybrid and now the Santa Fe is here. What do you think? It has the same styling as the gas model, but now a more fuel-efficient option for those ready to take the plunge. The Santa Fe Hybrid gets 7.1L/100km in the city and 7.9L/100km highway. That’s 33 MPG city and 30 MPG highway. That’s not as good as the Tucson Hybrid at 6.3L/100km city and 6.6L/100km highway. 37 MPG city and 36 MPG highway. However, it is heavier and bigger than the Tucson. Interestingly enough, the Tucson offers more cargo space. This Hybrid has two trims in Canada the Preferred and Luxury and in the US there are three trims, Blue, SEL Premium and Limited. We are testing the top Luxury trim and it comes with LED headlights and taillights, a panoramic sunroof, 19” alloy wheels and a smart power liftgate. 18” wheels are standard in Canada, 17” in the US. You also get a spare tire on this model which is stored underneath the vehicle. The gas model comes with a spare tire kit, not a spare tire. The top Luxury trim for $43,799 CAD comes standard with ventilated front seats, drivers memory seats and mirror positions, leather console molding, cloth roof trim, heated rear seats, a wireless charger, 12.3” digital information display, panoramic sunroof, smart lift-gate and 19” alloy wheels. The difference in price between the Preferred trim + the Trend Package is only $2,400 CAD. I feel there’s better value with the top trim for only a little bit more. There are quite a few differences between the two. The gas model gets front park assist, one-touch power windows for the passenger, power-folding side mirrors, head-up display, a 12 speaker Harman Kardon sound system and the 10.25” touchscreen, but these features are not offered on the hybrid. It is disappointing the larger screen is not available, as it is so intuitive to use. You can get wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto with the 8” touchscreen, but wired is only available at this time on the 10.25” screen. Both get the 12.3” digital multi-information display on the top trims; 4.2” is standard on the lower trims. In the US, power-folding side mirrors are offered on the top trim and the smart lift-gate & a wireless charger are both standard on all trims. The middle and top trims get the Harman Kardon sound system and the 10.25” touchscreen.
